Someone: why do you like Maui so much?

What I think: Maui is a multi dimensional anti-hero with a pleasing and unique design who has multiple aspects to his personality which make for a complex and flawed character. His desire to feel wanted and his dedication to pleasing people is incredibly relatable to me and the way he bases his self worth on superficial qualities rather than inner strengths strikes a definite chord. He goes through substantial character development during his time on screen and is both an interesting and sympathetic character but still retains weaknesses that make him realistic.

What I say: he’s big and I like his muscles

I’m gonna say something

To anyone that has kids/wants kids: please don’t place all their worth on their intelligence. Please don’t build them up when they’re young and tell them constantly how smart they are and brag to people about how “gifted” they are.

It is just as damaging as building up their worth on their looks/beauty. It is absolutely devastating to their confidence.

Because when they inevitably have trouble in school at some point, they’re gonna freak out. They’re gonna feel worthless. They’re gonna refuse to get tutoring because “they’re smart. they should be able to figure this out on their own”

Just… let your kids be “average”. Place their worth on every aspect of themselves. Dont insist they’re smart when they express having trouble in school. Help them. Tell them it’s ok.

Don’t focus their worth on any one thing. They’re worth something because they’re alive and that should be all that matters.
