Yup. I didn’t use to care so much about my OCs, though that was because I’d never really come up with a story for them. But I totally get now how frustrating it is to put so much thought into original content, only to not have anyone care.
At the end of the day, we’re supposed to be doing this for ourselves, but it’s still discouraging when no one shows any interest at all. If you ever wanna chat about OCs though I’m here. (my main issues right now are for my story itself rather than my characters but I’m always up for whatever)
I also think the reason I’m hesitant to talk about my OCs is that I see other’s OCs getting ignored.
Plus I’m so self-conscious and closed-off anyway, OCs come from your own experiences and values and fears, so showing them would be like exposing myself.
The only way to get people interested in your OCs is to:
1. Already have a following for something else OR
2. Be a decent artist and draw your OCs. Even if there otherwise wouldn’t be visual depictions of them. (like OCs from a novel)
And even then it’s a crapshoot. How do people discuss their original content and get feedback? Or is writing original fiction just one of those hobbies you have to always do alone?
