Do you think we’re more likely to get canon Sheith in the comics or the actual show? I personally think its possible for either one but I’d like to hear your thoughts.

dent-de-leon:

I think both are possible too! But as I’ve said before, it might just be that we get canon sheith in a more subtle way on screen whereas they go in depth on the romantic aspects of the relationship in the comics–which is what Studio Mir also did with Korra and Asami:

I also think that, if we’re getting any LGBT representation on the show, this “fight” Lauren and Joaquim are having (with DW I presume) isn’t over whether we’ll get that representation at all, but rather how explicit it’s allowed to be on screen. I don’t think they’d waste so much time and resources over a plot line that could be cut out entirely this late in the game, especially if they’ve already started storyboarding it.

It’s also worth noting that any LGBT representation originally intended has been rooted there since season 1–back when Voltron first came out and the show runners were asked about doing something like korrasami again, Lauren said, “We have those first 13 episodes and if we ever went beyond that, we would like to push the envelope.” (source). And again, there’s also this conversation from their panel (at the last NYCC I think it was):

  • “Will we be seeing any lgbt representation?”
  • Lauren: “It’s super important to us.”
  • Joaquim: “Just know that from our prospective, we’re fighting to create as open and broad a spectrum of characters as we can.”
  • Lauren: “We can’t give you any definite answers, but just know that–”
  • Joaquim: “We’re fighting for as broad and open representation as we can.”

As I’ve said before, I think what they’re fighting for really is the exact extent to which they can show that representation on screen as opposed to in supplementary materials like the comics. And given that DW has allowed very minor representation just fine before (see Gobber from HTTYD), the only representation I can really see them fighting so much for would have to be for major characters. And if it’s one that’s been growing since the beginning, one that they’ve hinted at repeatedly, the only relationship that fits that bill to me is sheith.

can you say what’s your novel about or is it secret?

Not a secret! No ones ever asked so I just don’t talk about it. Original stuff is kinda meh.

But it’s an old-timey sci-fi set in the late 1800s (think Frankenstein, the industrial revolution, factories, weird medical experiments, etc)

The cast of characters is very small and it’s about an awkward scientist who falls in love with his equally awkward assistant. It’s all very fluffy and innocent, but then some bad events happen and he has to break out of his comfort zone to save her.

All but two people are against him, so he and these two friends are forced to sneak around and get into sciencey shenanigans in order to bring her back.

It’s mostly humor and drama but idkkkkkk I just want more non-supernatural books set in the 1800s (it seems like a lot of new books right now are either set in the present, future, or past but with vampires/werewolves/demons/etc. And I try to write stuff I would want to read so that’s what i’m attempting rn)
