@everyone adding “poe and finn!!!” 2 the tags of that post i appreciate and sympathize but tbh it’s more abt how he made han/luke illegal and now it’s been pried away from his slimey hands and mark’s gone rogue and it’s a great world to live in

bcnsolos:

Y’know, I wonder if the main reason Luke idolized and latched onto Han so quickly is because he is a romanticized symbol of freedom that Luke has dreamed about all of his life.

Luke knew he wanted more out of life than what Tatooine could offer him. In deleted scenes, it’s apparent that he isn’t so welcome there, and finds himself lost in ideologies as he fantasizes about an existence bigger than himself. Now whether or not he believed he was meant for great things is up for debate, but at some subconscious level, he knew he was meant for more than a quaint life as a moisture farmer on a desert planet.

There’s self doubt when he’s asked to leave, sure, but that’s to be expected. Wouldn’t you doubt yourself finally leaving the place you’ve lived your entire life, everything you’ve ever known?

But here’s Han, this noncommittal space pirate who does want he wants, goes where he pleases, shoots first and doesn’t ask questions. Here is a man who has the power to potentially be whomever he wants. That sense of adventure Luke craved all his life and the very freedom of it is literally at Han’s fingertips. For a moisture farmer, the likelihood of that happening is very slim.

Han’s good, too. Despite his snarky, stand-offish, devil may care attitude, despite whatever persona he tries making people believe he is, Han is a compassionate and intelligent man with the incredible ability to love and care for the people he’s willing to let in so strongly, and I definitely believe Luke draws inspiration and strength from this, too.
